Hi there! I'm a data professional with roots in atmospheric science and the curiosity to poke around at datasets and find interesting tidbits that most people don't already know.

What I find fulfilling is building pipelines where data flows from a raw source and transforms into a product people find interesting or useful.

The best feeling is when I fight through roadblocks, bugs, errors, and finally get the entire pipeline and end-user application to work.

A little background on my career

Early in my career, I became a meteorologist because I was fascinated with the complexities of weather and climate phenomena. Turns out, that's exactly what drew me to data science and data engineering!

My career experience covers several industries, including aviation, weather forecasting, climate science, renewable energy, marketing, and finance.

I also ran my own consulting practice for eight years. The business side taught me to ask the right questions to understand the requirements before writing a single line of code. I've sat on both sides of the table long enough to understand what organizations actually need, not just what the data says.

This requirements-first mindset is baked into how I approach every project.

I firmly believe in using the right tools to solve problems (as opposed to the latest shiny object). Why? I've seen things break in production at 3 am. Learned those lessons the hard way, and I've got the battle scars to prove it.

Some personal tidbits about myself

I was born and raised in Northern Virginia. I live in Ashburn with my wife and two small kids. I'm a weather nerd who compares model forecasts whenever we have impending severe weather or winter storms. I love traveling off the beaten path. Have already set foot in 42 US states and 26 countries.

What most people don't know about me is that I lived in Vietnam for five years, during which I met my wife, learned the language, ran my consulting business, and had my first child.

One more thing worth knowing: I'm deaf. It shapes who I am and how I communicate. I put together an accommodations page with everything you need to know about communicating with me.

That's me in a nutshell. If you think we'd work well together, shoot me an email. I'm happy to share my resume if needed.
